Las Cruces Strategy Board Game Group

I organize a weekly strategy board game group here in Las Cruces. We've been meeting most Saturdays for a few years now — a mix of longtime gamers and people who've never played anything beyond Monopoly. Both are very welcome.

About the Group

The group started because I wanted a consistent place to play the kinds of games I love — ones that reward thinking, planning, and occasionally a bit of negotiation — with people who share that interest. Las Cruces turned out to have a lot of those people.

We typically have five to eight people on any given Saturday, and we all sit down to play the same game together. The games we favor are the kind that fill a whole afternoon and leave everyone with something to talk about afterward.

The vibe is friendly and low-pressure. We're not a competition circuit. Nobody's going to make you feel bad for a bad move, and we're happy to teach games to anyone who's new to them.

I also write about board games occasionally on the blog, if you want to get a feel for the kind of games we play and why we think they're worth your time.

Games We Play

We tend toward long, complex games that reward serious thinking. Here's what we play.

Twilight Imperium (4th Edition)

The grand epic of board gaming — galactic empires competing for control of the galaxy. Sessions run all day and every one is a story.

A Game of Thrones (2nd Edition)

Westeros politics and warfare on the table. Alliances form and break, and trust is always a liability.

Clash of Cultures

Build a civilization from a single settlement through exploration, city development, and cultural advances. Deep and satisfying.

Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization

One of the greatest strategy games ever designed. Guide your civilization from antiquity to the modern era through cards and careful planning.

Arkham Horror: The Living Card Game

Cooperative investigation in Lovecraftian New England. Deck-building meets narrative-driven horror.

Burning Banners

Medieval conflict with a heavy emphasis on politics and faction maneuvering. A group favorite.

War Room

A sweeping World War II strategy game played across a massive map. Demands coordination, planning, and nerve.

Dune: Imperium – Uprising

Deck-building and worker placement set in the Dune universe. Rich theme, tight decisions, and real tension at the table.

When & Where

Most Saturdays

Usually starting around 10:00 AM, running until 3–4 PM depending on what we're playing.

Location Shared with Members

We play at an estate home with a dedicated game room and game table in the Picacho Mountain subdivision.

Free to Join

No membership fee, no dues. Just show up and play.

Want to Join Us?

Send me a message through the contact page and I'll add you to the weekly heads-up email. Just introduce yourself and let me know whether you've played modern strategy games before — that way I can make sure someone's ready to teach if it's your first time.
